Abstract
Routine duties of deck officers include cargo stowage, securing, and passage planning to ensure both regulatory compliance and safe transit. Advances in materials, technology, and computational models for vessel and cargo dynamics are reflected in the IMO’s evolving regulatory framework. This article examines key topics for integration into "Ship Theory and Design," "Cargo Handling Technology," and "Ship Operation" courses. The goal is to enhance the theoretical and practical training of future officers, specifically regarding cargo management and route selection under the new IMO "Interim Guidelines on the Second Generation Intact Stability Criteria."
