The search for reliable and simple predictors of academic success of students is an urgent task of forming a result-oriented educational policy. The article examines the problem of the relationship between the starting level of applicants and their further academic performance as students of a technical university. The study was conducted using dynamic series of USE scores, internal entrance tests and intermediate certification of students, conjugacy analysis, comparative analysis (N = 13255). Hypotheses about the additional influence of factors of the level structure of education, the gender of students, and the type of previous education on academic performance have been tested. As a result, it was found that among the parameters "at the entrance", entrance scores have a high predictive potential for future performance, and the level of education received, the gender of the student, and the status of previous education do not have a significant impact.

The digitalization of shipping, stricter safety requirements and a shortage of qualified seafarers are radically changing the requirements for corporate training in shipping companies. Along with the traditional STCW training block, digital learning platforms, integrated competence management systems, partnership models with meta-institutes and international projects (SkillSea, WMU, etc.) are being formed. The purpose of the article is to develop a typology of corporate training systems for employees of the shipping industry based on the analysis of current research on seafarers' competencies, the impact of Industry 4.0 on labor and training, as well as corporate training practices in shipping companies. It is proved that at least five types of systems coexist in the industry: regulatory-compliance, operational-technical (safety and efficiency), digital platforms for lifelong learning, career-oriented (talent-management) and network/ecosystem models based on partnerships and international projects. The proposed typology allows us to move from the description of individual programs to the analysis of integrated corporate training systems as a component of strategic human resource management in the shipping industry.

The article is devoted to the analysis of crisis phenomena in modern education through the prism of Søren Kierkegaard's philosophy. The author explores how the dominant paradigms of the "success society", focused on external efficiency, early self-realization, and quantitative metrics, form the phenomenon of "despair under the mask" among successful students. Kierkegaard's philosophical categories ("stages of existence", "despair", "existential choice", "subjective truth") are applied to diagnose the existential vacuum hidden behind external academic performance. The paper argues that technocratic pedagogy risks becoming a tool for alienating a person from his authentic "Self". As an alternative, the outlines of an existentially oriented pedagogical attitude are proposed, the goal of which is not the production of an efficient specialist, but the creation of conditions for the development of a responsible subject capable of internal choice and acceptance of the anxiety of freedom. The scientific novelty lies in the systematic application of Kierkegaardian anthropology to criticize current educational trends and to develop specific pedagogical principles based on it.

The scientific contribution of this work lies in its refinement of the methodological foundations for using blogs as a dual-purpose tool, simultaneously advancing foreign language communicative competence and emotional intelligence–a combination crucial for preparing highly competitive graduates in technical fields.
The main task of the higher education system is to form the personality of a future specialist who is ready for the continuous process of acquiring new knowledge and actively applying it in his professional activities. There is a rethinking of the student’s role in the educational process, which is characterized by the acquisition of increasing autonomy and the increasing importance of independent work in the process of student’s professional training. A review of the literature on this issue has revealed a contradiction between the need of modern society for specialists who are ready for continuous self-development and self-education, who are able to take responsibility and make decisions and the level of training of university graduates. The existence of this problem requires a revision of the organization of the process of independent training of university students, namely, the specifics of the organization of independent work in a foreign language. The role of the teacher in the process of organizing independent work is to create certain conditions, taking into account an individually differentiated approach to developing assignments that allow the student to self-actualize.
The conducted research may be of interest to researchers in the field of foreign language teaching methods, as well as foreign language teachers, as it describes the implementation of competence-based and personality-oriented approaches in the process of professional training at the university.
